Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology Program offers classroom and clinical experiences for the entry-level surgical technologist which includes courses in aseptic technique, operative procedures, patient care, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, medical/legal aspects, technological sciences (computer, electricity & robotics), and related general education to help the student fulfill his/her role as an important, knowledgeable member of the surgical team.

The goal of the Surgical Technology Program is to prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. Further, the Surgical Technology Department will provide students with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge necessary to gain employment as a surgical technologist and become a contributing member of the healthcare team.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Surgical Technology will be awarded the successful graduate of the 24-month program. Qualified graduates may apply to the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), to take the Surgical Technologist Certifying Examination to become a Certified Surgical Technologist.

  • Surgical technology for the surgical technologist: A positive care approach represents a significant change in the field of surgical technology education. Surgical technology faculty and students have long depended on textbooks prepared by and for the nursing student or nursing graduate to serve as the foundation text for surgical technology education.
  • Surgical technology review : Certification and professionalism was written as a review text for the certification exams for surgical technology, the National Board on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Certification Examination for surgical technology (CST) and the Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) exam administered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). The text is constructed in an outline format for ease of review and organization. The intent of the book is to provide a summary review for students to peruse the content outlines and assess their knowledge of a subject area by completing multiple-choice questions for each section of the outline.
  • Lange Q & A. Surgical technology examination has been designed to assist surgical technicians planning to take the National Certification Examination for Surgical Technologists. The ever-growing body of knowledge necessary to prepare the surgical technologist for a professional role in the operating room requires that competency be measured by an examination that tests both constant and technologically up-to-date information. With this in mind, the authors have prepared an eighth edition of the review book that has been extensively revised and updated to include those advances in technology that have emerged.
  • Surgical technology : Principles and practice will help you learn to deliver the best patient care before, during, and after surgery. Within its pages you''ll find comprehensive coverage of all the updated AST Core Curriculum components - including all aspects of health care sciences; technological sciences; patient care concepts; preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care; surgical procedures; and professional practice.
